My passion for game worn jerseys and telling their stories has been well documented here for many years. I have quietly collected Avalanche game used and goal scored pucks throughout the years as well. These pucks, just like jerseys, have stories to tell. As expected, I really enjoy doing the research and exploring the details and figured it was time to share some puck history here too. Hoping you appreciate these small pieces of Colorado Avalanche history as much as I do.
I collect goal pucks and game worn jerseys for one reason and that’s to collect and preserve history. As you all well know (and as I have shared before), I’ve always enjoyed doing the homework and learning the unique story that each piece in my collection tells. Acquiring this puck was a no-brainer and I’m really excited to have it and share it with you.
THE DATE: February 27, 2021
THE VENUE: Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona
THE DETAILS: Gabriel Landeskog, on the power play, at 1:58 of the third period. This gave the Avs a 3-1 lead at the time. It was the first of four third period goals the team scored. The Avalanche eventually won this game by a final score of 6-2. This goal was Landeskog’s 202nd career goal which tied him with fellow Swede Peter Forsberg for third place on the all-time Avalanche goal scoring list. Only Milan Hejduk and Joe Sakic have scored more goals than Landeskog and Forsberg while playing for the Colorado Avalanche Hockey Club.
THE ASSISTS: Mikko Rantanen and Samuel Girard
THE HIGHLIGHT:
I like all Avs goal pucks because, like I said above and previously, they all have stories to tell and details to document. This puck’s story involves names like Peter Forsberg and Gabriel Landeskog though. It’s obviously just a little more special than many of the rest. Here’s to many, many more goals by The Captain while he’s wearing the burgundy and blue.
Until the next goal puck post, thanks for reading and, as always, #GoAvsGo.
